How does Reformer Pilates work?

Reformer Pilates uses a traditional piece of Pilates equipment to provide a total-body exercise aimed at increasing strength and flexibility. The gentle resistance applied to the muscles supporting the spine help develop a stronger core and improve joint stability, balance and posture.

Why Choose Clinical Reformer Pilates?

If you have an injury, pain or a health condition it is a good idea to begin your Reformer strengthening programme under the supervision of a health professional.

A thorough initial assessment will ensure the Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist is aware of any important considerations for your body and will be there during the class to guide and prompt you to ensure you are exercising in the best way for your body to prevent further pain or injury.

Clinical Reformer Pilates can help with:

  • Pregnancy & Post Natal Care
  • Back Pain
  • Injury Prevention (Programs can be tailored to work on specific body parts such as knee strengthening, ankle stability etc.)
  • Injury Rehab (Including exercises to work eccentrically, which is best for tendon loading!)
  • Returning to exercise after surgery (Work on increasing your range of movement and focus on control and quality of movement as well as strength)
  • People needing to work on low impact exercise (Including those with pelvic floor dysfunction, prolapse, hernias or pelvic pain)
  • People with non-weight bearing status. (We can reduce the spring tension to allow the body a great entry point for rehab.
  • We also have wheelchair-based clients using the reformer, but this is often best done in an individual session)

How do Physiotherapist / Exercise Physiologist supervised classes differ from other reformer classes?

  • Your individualised program is tailored to suit your injuries or health concerns.
  • You will be supervised by a Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist (Health Fund Rebates May Apply)
  • You will work on your specific goals, using the exercises you love
  • You will learn the technique of each exercise at your own pace
  • You can interact during the session, ask questions if you need too
  • We can incorporate the reformer with general resistance training exercises (such as body weight or dumbbell exercises) and relaxation/mindfulness.

Before you join a class:

Prior to joining the group, each participant must undergo an individual initial assessment. In this session, we can discuss any injuries or conditions you have, and introduce you to the reformer and your exercise program.

For hygiene and safety, please wear grippy socks during your sessions. These can be purchased at reception.
