Dizziness

Do you have rocks in your head?

Has your doctor, specialist, friend or family member suggested that you have Vestibular Physiotherapy for Rehabilitation, to help with dizziness?  Have you been told that you have “rocks in your head”?  There are many and varied causes of dizziness, and our job as Physiotherapists trained in Vestibular Rehabilitation is to figure that out and point you in the right direction to help get you better!

One of the causes of dizziness is a condition called Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo – or “B.P.P.V”.  Tiny little, microscopic particles referred to as “otoconia”, often called “crystals” or “rocks”, float around or stick in the little canals in your ear or ears and can contribute to or cause disequilibrium.  Those with BPPV often report feelings of spinning, dizziness, imbalance, sometimes nausea, vomiting and other symptoms.

Vestibular rehabilitation is tailored to the individual and often include treatment like physical manoeuvres, eye and head movement, balance and walking exercises that you can complete in the clinic and at home.  Your physio will then reassess and make recommendations based on your progress.
