Exercise Physiology

We know that Exercise can be life-changing.

We know that Exercise can change your quality of life.

We know that Exercise is integral in guiding new habits and behaviours to support a holistic approach to an improved and functional lifestyle.

At My Local Exercise Physiology, we are here to help you “Live Your Best Life”

What is an Exercise Physiologist and how can an EP help?

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist is a tertiary educated Allied Health Professional who specialises in exercise interventions irrespective of age, illness or injury for people with a broad range of conditions (usually chronic) and health issues. Such as:

  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Arthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Mental Health inc. Depression.
  • Heart disease, and high blood pressure
  • Cancer
  • Falls Prevention
  • Respiratory conditions such as asthma
  • Neurological conditions such as brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, MS, and stroke rehabilitation.

An EP can also work with the ‘healthy’ population for those who are seeking expert exercise advice including:

  • If you have not exercised before
  • If you lack confidence
  • If you want to develop a program for weight loss
  • If you just don’t know where to start

You may be currently suffering from, or at risk of developing such conditions, injuries or health issues affecting their quality of life. We use evidence-based methods, health education, behavioural coaching, exercise counselling and physical rehabilitation. We can also support Women who are pregnant, trying to conceive or wanting extra care/advice during the pre/post-natal periods.

The Process

At My Local Exercise Physiology, we start with a 1:1 initial consultation. During the appointment, our EP will assess your current health state and set some goals. This might involve a discussion about your medical history, medications and physical activity status. By the end of your consultation, you will know more about your body and have a plan in place for subsequent sessions.

This may include:

  • 1:1 Exercise sessions at one of our 3 clinic / gym locations
  • Supervised group exercise classes
  • Hydrotherapy group
  • Home Exercise Program with ongoing consults for reviews

Can Exercise Physiology be funded?

EP funding may be available as part of or through:

  • Medicare chronic disease management plan (EPC/Care Plan)
  • Medicare type 2 diabetes group program
  • Return to work SA / TCP insurance claims
  • Private health insurance
  • Department of Veteran’s Affairs
  • NDIS

How we work with our internal team of Physiotherapists at My Local Physio Plus?

A Physiotherapist will assess, diagnose, manage and treat (usually acute) injuries or conditions. This management and treatment is usually specific to the injury and presentation.

An Exercise Physiologist will utilise an exercise intervention to manage and treat (usually chronic) injuries or conditions. Exercise Physiologists will look at things holistically and may delve into lifestyle habits and behaviour.

So, at My Local Exercise Physiology, we do not work in competition with each other, but instead we will get best results for you when working WITH each other.
